Bypass Doors Installation Process
Bypass Doors are easy to install and are perfect doors for a bedroom closet as well as for a built in wardrobe. They are relatively inexpensive with prices depending on several variables. They are primarily used for interior use but can be found on many sheds. The modern style of these doors offers a contemporary appeal. Showers are a popular place for bypass doors as well because they allow you access to the front of back of the shower area. They are available at most local retailers that offer home and building supplies.
To install a set of bypass doors you need to purchase the door track kit that includes the doors, pulls, track, hardware and towel bars. You will need a few extra tools to install the closet doors in the doorway such as a tape measure, pencil, hacksaw, drill and drill bits and level. You will need to decide which room you want the doors installed. The most common closet to install them on is the bedroom on a built in wardrobe or closet.
Begin by measuring the height and width of the door opening. This should be done before purchasing your door kit. It will partially determine the prices of the doors as well as the size of doors you will need to completely cover the opening. Once you have the exact measurements, visit some of your local retailers to find the best prices and to find the doors of your choice. You will want to make sure your doors include the track. If they do not you may have to purchase them separately.
Hold the track up to the center of the door opening. Mark each screw hole with a pencil and drill the marks with a drill. Beginning at one end, secure the track to the top door jamb with the screws that were provided with the kit. Remember the track goes on the interior of the opening and not on the inside or outside. If you are installing this for a wardrobe, you may need more than one kit. If so, place the tracks one behind the other overlapping in the middle. Place the roller brackets that cam with the kit on top of the door according to the package instructions.
You will have to drill some pilot hold through the holes in the bracket so you can secure them to the doors with screws. Holding the door at an angle, snap the rollers into the track. Once the doors are hung you can adjust the height of the doors with the dial on the bracket. You will want to do this so the wardrobe or closet door meet in the middle and form a straight line. Line up the bottom glides and attach them to the floor below the doors. Attach the pulls according to the package instructions and your doors are finished. You now have modern bypass doors with a contemporary style that should fit your doorway perfectly.
